Ingredients

  • 4 fillets tilapia fillets (about 1 1/2 pounds total)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium lemon sliced into thin rounds
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Arrange the tilapia fillets in a single layer in a 9x13-inch baking dish. Season both sides evenly with salt, paprika, and black pepper.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, lemon juice, and minced garlic. Pour this mixture evenly over the fish. Tuck the lemon slices under and on top of the fillets.
  4. Bake for 11 minutes, then switch the oven to broil and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  5. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

For a more intense lemon flavor, use a Meyer lemon if available. To avoid overcooking, check the fish at the 11-minute mark; thicker fillets may need an extra minute. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in a 300°F oven to prevent drying out. This recipe works well with other white fish like cod or haddock. Serve with steamed rice or a simple green salad for a complete meal. For a dairy-free version, substitute the butter with olive oil.
