Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups frozen strawberries about 360 to 475 ml; preferably California-grown, unsweetened
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice about 120 ml; fresh Meyer lemon juice is ideal
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar about 50 g; extra sugar can be added later

Method

  1. Combine the frozen strawberries, fresh lemon juice, and granulated sugar in a high-speed blender.
  2. Blend on high until the mixture is completely smooth and slushy, scraping down the sides as needed.
  3. If the blender struggles, add cold water 1 to 2 tablespoons at a time and continue blending until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. Taste the lemonade and blend in a little extra sugar only if you prefer it sweeter.

Notes

Use unsweetened frozen strawberries for the brightest flavor. If you like a tarter drink, start with 1/4 cup lemon juice and add more after tasting. For a thicker slush, let the berries thaw for 5 minutes before blending and skip the extra water. Store any leftovers in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 week and give it a quick reblend with a splash of water before serving. Swap the sugar for honey or agave syrup if you prefer, but add it slowly and taste often. Serve immediately in frosty glasses with a lemon wheel or strawberry garnish for a pretty summer presentation.
